The Advocacy Center Brings Dr. Lou Brown to Rochester
September 19, 2011
To celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month, The Advocacy Center presents The Quest for Ordinary Life: Preparing Individuals with Disabilities to Function Productively in the Real World of Work at The Strong’s National Museum of Play on Thursday, October 20, 2011 from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. The featured speaker is Lou Brown, PhD, Professor Emeritus at University of Wisconsin and an advocate for inclusion and competitive employment for individuals with disabilities for over forty years.
Dr. Brown will provide information, strategies and real life examples that will increase the ability of participants to support competitive employment for individuals with disabilities. Topics include matching workers with jobs, artificial and natural supervision, integrated work environments, authentic vocational assessment, and functioning in multiple settings.
Participants at Lou Brown’s workshops credit him with creating opportunities for people with disabilities by showing them how successful employment situations can be achieved. One past participant notes: “I have seen Lou Brown many times. I have seen first hand the effect that he has on people - he challenges and changes their minds about employing people with disabilities.”
The conference is ideal for individuals with disabilities, family members and others who support individuals with disabilities, school personnel, employers, and adult service providers such as supported work programs. College students preparing for a career supporting individuals with disabilities and community leaders can also benefit from the information.
