Parents Prepare to "Spring into Action"

Thirteen parents from Steuben, Schuyler, and Chemung Counties participated in a skill building conference at Pathways in Corning, NY on Saturday, May 19. The event was sponsored by the Finger Lakes DDSO Region II Consumer Council, The Advocacy Center, NYS Disability Advocacy Association and Network, and Pathways, Inc. for parents of children with developmental disabilities. Jim Whitehead, Director of Finger Lakes DDSO, opened the conference with a bit of history and reflections on how role of Family Support Services has grown and changed over the years. Other workshops focused on identifying, developing, and employing effective communication and advocacy strategies to achieve positive educational outcomes for children. Participants were pleased with the opportunity to network with service providers and other families from the area, while gaining knowledge and building confidence.
