Increasing Sensitivity to Sensitivity

Experiencing sensory overload
Experiencing sensory overload

A group of sixty service providers and parents learned about Sensory Integration Issues from Felicia Thierer, OTR/L at the Sensory Integration workshop sponsored by The Advocacy Center.  At the event held on November 6, 2009 at Buckland Lodge in Brighton, Thierer helped the audience to understand how children are affected by sensory issues and how these issues can be manifested in behavior.  Participants left with a heightened awareness and understanding of Sensory Integration;  this increased knowledge will help them as they support children affected by sensory issues.  Knowing the child and how he or she reacts to certain situations can tell a lot about an individual, says Thierer.

Comments from participants:

“I now understand my child’s needs a little better.”

“The interactive activities helped increase my understandings of Sensory Integration.”
