Four part educational series for parents: Understanding Sensory Issues

The Advocacy Center is pleased to sponsor a four part educational series for parents entitled "Understanding Sensory Issues." Dr. Larry Medwetsky, VP of Audiology and Research from Rochester Hearing and Speech Center, will provide two informational sessions on the topic of Central Auditory Processing. On November 7, Dr. Medwetsky will focus on the Theory of Central Auditory Processing and how different types of deficits can impact children's lives. On November 16, he will discuss Management Techniques for Central Auditory Processing Disorders.

Noreen Podyma, MA/CCC-SLP, Director of Speech Operations at Rochester Hearing and Speech Center, will address Speech and Language Disabilities on November 21st. Mrs. Podyma will focus on spoken language processing disabilities. Areas covered will include typical language processing demands at home and school. Practical strategies for home and school use will be covered. This session will be of particular interest for parents of children who have been identified with a speech/language disability.

Tara Horrigan, Senior Occupational Therapist at Occupational Therapy of Rochester, NY, will be the presenter on November 28th. She will provide an overview on sensory processing and strategies parents can use to support their children who have sensory processing disorders.
