2008 Event - It was a huge success!

The Memorial Art Gallery was abuzz with activity for The Advocacy Center’s third annual “Night of Hot Jazz and Cool Art” on Friday, May 9, 2008.  Artwork filled the atrium and music filled the ballroom as over 300 guests enjoyed a lovely evening.

Once again, we were thrilled to feature the music of extremely talented performers including Wycliffe Gordon, Jimmie Highsmith, Jr., and Tyler Owens.  This year, they were joined by local band Filthy Funk; drummer Kenwood Anderson, who has performed with Al Jarreau; and Grammy-nominated keyboardist Paul Boutté.  Bidding was lively in our silent auction, which showcased photography, pottery, paintings, woodworking, and a variety of other pieces donated by local artists, along with gift baskets donated by local businesses.

Katrina Irwin of WROC TV8 served as Emcee for the evening, beginning with the presentation of our annual Community Awards.  Paul Shew, Executive Director, and Robert Morse, Board President, were joined by State Senator Joseph Robach and Assemblyman David Koon as they congratulated the winners.

The evening was a huge success and we expect the net proceeds to be at least 50% higher than last year’s event.  Our sincere thanks to Preferred Care, our presenting sponsor, and our other corporate sponsors, in-kind donors, well wishers, volunteers, guests, and all who helped to make the evening a success!
